Company Overview

Operating City Wide

On June 29, 1998, Engine Companies 18, 61, 252, 270, and 288 were disbanded and reorganized as squad companies assigned to the Special Operations Command. The squads were equipped with ladder company tools and trained to operate either as a ladder company or an engine company.

In addition to responding to working fires in their areas, the squads were formed to handle hazardous material incidents and are special called to major incidents and emergencies. Their training is shaped by the FDNY Technical Rescue School.

Brothers In Battle

Out of the 343 FDNY firefighters killed responding to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, 19 came from the Maspeth firehouse. The memorial page keeps those names together in one respectful place.
